Settlement Requires NYCHA to Accommodate Tenants with Visual Impairments

A settlement was approved on January 13, 2014 in a case challenging the New York City Housing Authority’s termination of the Section 8 rental subsidy of a Staten Island tenant who is blind after the agency failed to provide notice to the tenant in an accessible format. NYCHA agreed to adopt new policies and procedures to ensure proper communications with tenants who are visually impaired.
