MFJ and Towards Justice filed a class action lawsuit on April 8, 2021 against Uber and Checkr, challenging their failure to comply with the New York City Human Rights Law and federal and state fair credit laws when deactivating and refusing to hire drivers based on their background checks, and contending that this unlawful practice has a disparate impact on communities of color in the City. Several legal news organizations covered the filing, including Law360, Reuters, and Bloomberg Law.
