Statement on Amir Locke charges

Today, the State of Minnesota refused to file criminal charges against the police officers who killed Amir Locke. Amir was shot and killed when police officers used a no-knock warrant to storm the apartment where he was staying. Amir was not a suspect in the investigation related to the warrant. He had done nothing wrong. But because he brandished a firearm to confront intruders, the state considers his death justifiable. This is an infuriating injustice and is further evidence we cannot rely on a criminal justice system that refuses to hold the police responsible for killing an innocent Black man. Amir’s life mattered. Black lives matter. We remain committed to the fight against police violence.
