MFJ Receives Mother Cabrini Health Foundation Grant

Mobilization for Justice is proud to be among the recipients of the first round of grants made by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to improve health and human services across New York State. The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation grant to Mobilization for Justice supports the expansion of our Children’s Medical–Legal Partnership to Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx to serve low-income and immigrant children by addressing the social determinants of health.  Our work will ensure that each child we see receives support services necessary to obtain an appropriate education, and that the civil legal needs of the child’s family are also addressed. Studies show that unaddressed legal problems have a de-stabilizing effect on children’s health by impeding their ability to function in school.  Related issues such as immigration insecurity and issues jeopardizing the family’s income, housing, and benefits also have a negative impact on children’s physical and mental health. Doctors and lawyers working in concert to advocate for appropriate educational and other essentials of life are a proven means of improving the health and quality of life for children with disabilities.

Mobilization for Justice also provides free legal services to children and the families of children treated by three other partner hospitals of the New York Health+Hospitals Corporation, including Bellevue Hospital, Harlem Hospital, and Kings County Hospital.
