MFY’s Kinship Caregiver Law Project finds that grandparents provide 60% of informal kinship care, providing a caring home for children who otherwise would be placed in formal foster care. Yet they face formidable obstacles in navigating Family Court and getting the resources they need to provide for the children in their care.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, MFY and Cardozo Law School set up the Disaster Relief Law Field Clinic. By April 22, 2013, when the clinic held its final session, six students had worked with MFY attorneys to provide assistance to more than 500 hurricane victims.
